Computer Privileges

Access to computers in the Library is available by using your 9-digit community borrower's number when a computer prompts you for your login and password. Type in the complete number (including "CB"), case-sensitive, with no spaces, in both fields. This number will allow you access to the Library's online catalog (WebCat), the periodical databases, the Internet, and the Microsoft Office Suite of software.

To ensure the security of your account, be sure to close the browser when you are finished and log off of the computer. To log off, click on "start" in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, choose "log off," then "log off" again when the system asks. Do not give your borrower's number to others. It is for your exclusive use.

Abuse of printing privileges will lead to suspension of your Community Borrower Card.

Visitors to the Wildenthal Memorial Library

The Byran Wildenthal Memorial Library welcomes many visitors throughout the year and those not affiliated with Sul Ross as students or employees have a variety of services available to them.

Anyone may come to the Library and use its resources. A selection of the current issues of popular magazine subscriptions is available on the first floor in an area with leisure seating and spectacular views. Current newspapers from cities across Texas are also located in this area. Issues of the town's newspaper, the Alpine Avalanche, and back issues of all newspapers may be requested from the Circulation Desk on the first floor.

Reference assistance is available from the Information Desk on the first floor and reference books are located across from this desk. Photocopiers are located near the back of the first floor and copies are 10 cents per page. Flash drives and blank CDs may be purchased at the Circulation Desk.

The bulk of the periodicals (both current and retrospective) are located on the second floor, but the regular circulating books can be found on the third floor.

Although the Sul Ross community has first priority, computers with Microsoft Office software and Internet access are available to library visitors. Please inquire at the Information Desk to be logged on as a guest.

WebCat is the Library's online catalog and is available 24/7 to anyone, anywhere via the Internet. For your convenience, one non-password-protected workstation is dedicated to WebCat and is on the first floor, near the Circulation Desk. Use it to explore the holdings of the Library and the Archives of the Big Bend.

Permanent residents of Brewster, Presidio, Jeff Davis, or Pecos counties who are over 18 and not enrolled in a public, private, or home school are encouraged to ask at the Information Desk about the procedure to apply for a Community Borrower card. This fee-based service entitles card holders to borrow up to ten books at one time and to use the Library's computers with a unique password.

Those who are interested in the history and culture of the Trans-Pecos will want to visit the Archives of the Big Bend, on the second floor.
